Hamersley Golf Course Public Art Project – Reality & Illusion
Illuminating Art: Enhancing Public Installations with Architectural LED Lighting
As part of the WA Government’s Percent for Art scheme, the City of Stirling commissioned a series of four public artworks for the new hospitality precinct and state-of-the-art driving range at Hamersley Golf Course. Artist Pam Gaunt, in collaboration with Caroline Di Costa from Apparatus, developed “Reality & Illusion” — a thoughtful integration of light, form, and environment inspired by the flowering cycle of local Tuart trees that surround the site.
Austube Schréder was engaged to deliver specialist lighting solutions for two of the feature artworks, transforming the installations into vibrant, illuminated focal points after dark.
Both solutions demonstrate Austube Schréder’s ability to integrate flexible, architectural-grade lighting into complex public art applications, enhancing visual impact while ensuring long-term durability and performance.
Lighting plays a critical role in enhancing visibility, texture, and engagement after dark. Austube Schréder’s custom linear LED solutions supports seamless transition from day to night and adding depth, drama, and atmosphere to public spaces.

Soffit Artwork

A 40-metre soffit artwork, featuring precision-cut acrylic elements, is backlit using 157 metres of Skyline Flex 1515 TB in 4000K. The linear LED system delivers consistent, diffused light, creating a soft glow that animates the intricate cut-outs and enhances their presence at night.
Etched Glass lighting

An etched in-ground glass artwork is illuminated with 5.6 metres of Skyline Flex 2721, utilising 15° optics for sharp, controlled light distribution. The fittings are mounted discreetly around the stainless-steel perimeter, allowing the light to highlight the fine detailing of the etched glass without visual obstruction.
